Moses Reed Tyler Scholarship 2023

In 1937, Moses Reed Tyler, a resident of Berlin, Massachusetts,
executed a will establishing a trust fund “for the benefit of such person
or persons, who shall at the time be residents of the Town of Berlin,
Worcester County, Massachusetts, or who shall have been educated in
the public schools of Berlin and whose parents shall have resided
therein... to enable such persons to continue their studies in places
which may be approved by the [school] committee.”

Moses Reed Tyler charged the Berlin School Committee [now the
Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee] with determining the
recipients of funds from this trust.

In making its selection the School
Committee is guided by the express intent of Moses Reed Tyler who
stated that it was his desire to assist those students who are “earnest and
industrious” and “who may not have the highest scholastic standing.”

Funds may be awarded to students who are seeking training in
occupations or trades in addition to students desiring to go to college or
institutions of higher learning. Moses Reed Tyler expressly stated “that
assistance shall be given to those primarily who would not be able
financially to secure that education which this fund will enable them to
obtain, but such assistance may be extended as well to others who might
with less difficulty procure such education, but to whom such aid will
be of assistance.”

The Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee welcomes applications for
Moses Reed Tyler Scholarship funds from eligible persons. Applications must be
