NOTICE TO APPLICANTS FOR PERMITS FROM THE BERLIN ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
Effective December 1, 2020, the Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals will resume the processing of petitioner requests and the holding of public hearings. Due to public assembly restrictions, it is expected hearings will be held virtually using ZOOM webinar for the foreseeable future. Sections 33 through 38 of Chapter 201 of the Acts of 2020 signed into law by the Governor on November 10, 2020 supersede Section 17 of Chapter 53 of the Acts of 2020. Chapter 201 of the Acts of 2020 requires town boards to resume the processing of applications and the holding of hearings as of December 1, 2020.  In order to facilitate the holding of hearings in a virtual venue, additional requirements must be made of all petitioners.

• In addition to the document and plan hard copy requirements listed in the petition instructions, an additional eight (8) hard copies of all documents and plans must be submitted directly to the Zoning Board of Appeals. All documents and plans must also be simultaneously submitted to the Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals and Berlin Town Clerk in a pdf or excel electronic format suitable for virtual display at hearings. These electronic documents and plans may be submitted in an e-mail to both zba@townofberlin.com and townclerk@townofberlin.com .
• All original postal abutter notification return receipts and proof of newspaper postings must be received by the Board sufficiently in advance of the hearing date to allow for their verification. Use of the Town’s drop box is suggested.
