Berlin Memorial Day 2023 - limited public partipcaton

Call to Legionnaires, Veterans and Boy Scouts

Berlin Memorial Day 2023

Dear Legionnaires, Veterans, Boy Scouts,

Memorial Day activities will begin with an assembly at Berlin Memorial School, Friday, May 26th at 9:30 am for Berlin's veterans. The program will begin with the posting of the Colors.

We invite all veterans to come.

Memorial Day services are in compliance with the directive from Boston GAR headquarters. Post 162 American Legion will hold private ceremonies this year.

Memorial Day ceremonies will begin on Sunday, May 28 at 10:00 am at the South Cemetery with the decoration of the graves by volunteer Legion and Legion Auxiliary members and Boy Scouts
followed by decoration at the other cemeteries. We encourage your help if possible.

Private Memorial Day services will be held at all the cemeteries and at the school on Monday, May 29th starting at South Cemetery at 9:00 am. This will include General Logan's orders and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. This memorial ceremony includes only Legion and Legion Auxiliary and authorized personnel.

We can use this abbreviated program to meditate on the courage our ancestors had for our country and their valor on the battlefield and devotion to a democratic government acknowledging the value of our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and the cost of many of their lives.

We are eternally grateful for their gift of preserving the greatest nation on earth and are eternally indebted to them. May they rest in peace.
