Tree Warden

A tree warden is a person in charge of shade trees on public town lands. The word “warden” was a common title for natural resource officials in the late 1800s.

Massachusetts law requires that every town and city have a qualified tree warden, either elected or appointed. The tree warden mandate is found in Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 106. Notices of Berlin Tree Warden hearings are posted to www.MyTownGovernment.org. Berlin’s Tree Warden is annually appointed by the Board of Selectmen.
