Agricultural Commission

Berlin’s Agricultural Commission was established by unanimous vote of Annual Town Meeting on May 2, 2005 (Article 34, sponsored by the Planning Board):

ARTICLE 34 – To see if the Town will vote to establish an Agricultural Commission to represent the Berlin farming community.  Said Commission shall serve as facilitators for encouraging the pursuit of agriculture in the Town of Berlin, shall promote agricultural-based economic opportunities in the Town and shall advise other Town Boards as to the impact of Town By-Laws and regulations on the agricultural community.  The Commission will consist of five members from the active farming community of Berlin, appointed by the Selectmen: Two members for a term of three years; two members for an initial term of two years and a term of three years thereafter, and one member for an initial term of one year and a term of three years thereafter, or take any action relative thereto. In 2012, the Berlin Agriculture Commission established Berlin’s first Community Garden located on seven acres of conservation land at 25 River Road West. The garden has been well received by the town residents, many of whom have generously donated funds as well as in-kind services to support the project.
