Public Notice:  SA Farm - MassDEP Complaint Reporting

Residents experiencing odors from SA Farm, 429 Whitney Street in Northborough, are urged to report their complaints to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  MassDEP tracks all complaints and provides summaries to the Attorney General’s office for their use in enforcing the consent judgment with the SA Farm property owner.

MassDEP’s Online Reporting Form is at https://www.mass.gov/forms/environmental-complaint-form

  • Select an appropriate reporting category and fill in the form with as much detail as possible.
  • The more information residents can provide, the better.
  • If residents are reporting odors at their property, they should provide their address, as well as a detailed description of the type of odor.
    • For example, rather than "garbage," it is more helpful to know if it is rotting fruit, or compost, or other specific odors.
  • MassDEP is better able to target specific sources of food waste at the site if residents are able to provide specific details on the type of odor.
  • Residents walking or driving by the site should identify SA Farm, 429 Whitney Street in Northborough as the source of odor if the complaint involves activity at that site.
  • Finally, residents should provide their contact information if they are comfortable doing so.

Residents may instead maintain their own complaint log and share it via email with andrea.briggs@state.ma.us.  However, the most direct and timely way to get the information to MassDEP is by using their Online Reporting Form at https://www.mass.gov/forms/environmental-complaint-form
