The Berlin Fire Department, headed by Chief Bruce Ricard, is a call department, consisting of 27 Firefighters and Officers protecting a population of approximately 2600 and an area of 14 square miles.
As a call department, the members are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and respond to your emergency calls from their homes, places of business or any other location, at a moments notice.
In an average year, we respond to about 300 calls, of all types, from fire suppression, to hazardous materials containment, motor vehicle accidents and generally assisting the public in a variety of ways.
In addition to responding to incidents, the department is responsible for implementing a wide variey of permits, inspections and fire details as required by the laws of Massachusetts.
It is in this tradition that the department has served the community since 1882.
