BERLIN'S BICENTENNIAL
March 11, 1812 to 2012
Berlin’s 200th Birthday

The Bicentennial Committee continues to work
on a year-long birthday celebration.
We are planning events that will encompass all
age groups and revolve around present
Town-wide activities:
Olde Home Day, Christmas in Berlin, Fishing Derby, Fireman’s Muster, Historical Society programs plus
games, a parade, military reenactments, fireworks, a bonfire, a grand ball, classic car parade, banners,
time capsule, memorabilia and much more.

It’s an ambitious undertaking and we will be updating you time and again on what's needed, what you can contribute, and an occasional photo to help bring
back memories of other special moments in the
Town's History.

**************************************

We continue to look for volunteers to
donate their time and talent.

We're compiling a special-edition Bicentennial Cookbook.
So if you have recipes that you would like to submit,
especially ones with a “Berlin history”
please send or email them to
berlin200th@townofberlin.com

Better yet if they come with a story or
even a picture of the original cook.

* We are also collecting early pictures of houses,
road scenes, or people. Either you can scan the photos
or we would be happy to do so for you.

If you would like more information please email,
or contact any Committee member
Let’s make Berlin’s 200th Birthday a year
to remember (until the 250th that is)!!.
Respectfully submitted,
Eloise Salls, Ch.; Dennis Fearebay
Marsha Johnston; Linda Thomasino, Secretary

" PARADE INVITATION"

Berlin is celebrating!
Two hundred years ago, in February 1812, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts passed a bill on
an Act to Incorporate the District of Berlin into a
Town by the Name of Berlin.
On Sunday, February 5, 2012, the Bicentennial
Committee invites all Townspeople of Berlin to
attend a  Birthday celebration of this Act.
The celebration will take place at the 1870 Town Hall starting at 1:00 pm.  There will be a short program, special guests, local dignitaries and a huge birthday cake made by Assabet Valley students.
Bicentennial and Historical Society merchandise
will be available for purchase and Memorial Hall
will be open  with a special display of maps and memorabilia
.

Please RSVP to Bicentennial Committee Chair, Eloise Salls at townclerk@townofberlin.com or 978 838 2931.

"OAK GROVE PAINTERS"

Berlin's Bicentennial Committee would like to announce a special art exhibition by the Oak Grove Painters,  a loose association of artists sharing a common interest in painting out doors.
Some but not all of the Berlin  paintings center
around Sawyer Hill and span more than a year of changing seasons and weather conditions.
Their paintings are an oasis of calm and remind
us all of the beauty that surrounds us.

The opening reception for their show is February 3rd
from 6 to 8 pm at the 1870 Town Hall in Berlin's center.  The exhibition can be viewed whenever the 1870 Town Hall is open as well as Sunday, February 5th  from 1 to 3 pm when Berlin will be celebrating their 200th year of Incorporation as a Town.
